Designers, editors and reporters interested in visual journalism can attend these online seminars.

Poynter’s News University, in partnership with the Society for News Design (SND), will offer a three-part series on news design: “Making emotional connections with local audiences through design” on July 16; “Secrets of a successful newsletter: lessons from The Lily” on July 17; and “Planning and design for the big story” on July 18. All three webinars will air at at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

The first webinar will show participants how to develop templates and design devices that lead to a visual identity as unique as their community.

The second webinar will share strategies used by The Lily’s newsletter, one of the highest average open rates of any newsletter produced by The Washington Post.

The third webinar will focus on how to create a plan flexible enough to cover the big story and adjust as more information pours in to ultimately tell the best story possible in the next day’s paper.

Registration is ongoing and costs US$29.95 for each webinar. Those who enroll in all three webinars can receive a 20 percent discount. The webinars are free for SND members.
