New ARIJ Fellowship:Right to Safety in the Arab World

May 25, 2022

Are you a journalist or a graduate in journalism from one of the following Arab countries: Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia or Morocco?

Are you interested in producing an in-depth report on the topic of the “Right to Safety” in all its forms in the Arab world?

If so, then this fellowship could be an opportunity for you.

Violations of people’s safety in the region take various shapes and forms and does not preclude violations against journalists. ARIJ in collaboration with Free Press Unlimited (FPU), is launching a new fellowship for in-depth reports on the right to safety, in order to shed light on different aspects of disregard of safety in the Arab world.

The call is a part of a larger programme, which is co-funded by the EU and managed by a Consortium of FPU and IMS, supporting independent media outlets in the Middle East and North Africa. Its contents are the sole responsibility of FPU and ARIJ and do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union.

The “Right to Safety”, is a two-months fellowship (from June 22 – 22 August), that includes training in physical and digital safety, remote meetings, and production of a professionally researched and conceived report, in addition to an opportunity for seven excelling participants to attend the 15th ARIJ Annual Forum in Amman Jordan in December 2022, to take part in a “Hackathon” that  focuses on the “Right to Safety” for Journalists from the region..

If you are interested, please share your information, and a brief proposal for the topic you wish to work on in Arabic.

Application deadline: June 10, 2022, 11:59 pm Amman time.
