Two ARIJ investigations have made it to the shortlist of the Fetisov Journalism Awards (FJA): “Murder on Mobiles in Sudan” by journalist Salma Abdel Aziz, and “A Bloody Route Through Libya: Europe-bound Migrants Caught Between Cham Wings Airlines and Haftar’s Army” by journalist Mahmoud Elsobky.
The investigation “Murder on Mobiles in Sudan” documents the stories of dozens of girls in the Darfur region of Sudan, who have been murdered, tortured, or beaten by their families, relatives, or people from the same tribe, because they were found with mobile phones in their possession. It also shows that the perpetrators have escaped punishment with help from the heads of the local administration, or from the families of the victims, on the pretext that the perpetrator is a family member.
The other investigation “A Bloody Route Through Libya” uncovers how human trafficking networks and travel agencies exploit Syrians wanting to migrate to Europe, by taking them to Libya on flights operated by the private Syrian Airline company, Al Cham Wings, in cooperation with the Military Investment Authority of the Libyan National Army, under the command of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
The mission of Fetisov Journalism Awards is to recognize journalists for their contribution to the promotion of universal human values and extraordinary heroism, and to promote universal human values such as honesty, justice, courage and nobility through the example of outstanding journalists from all over the world as their dedicated service and commitment contribute to changing the world for the better.
