Three investigations produced with the support of Arij won the Egyptian Press Awards: “Up in Flames” by journalist Shaaban Bilal, which documents during a field tour the lack of occupational health and safety factors and tools in 12 laboratories.

The second investigation is “Fake Funerals” by journalist Samar Medhat, which monitors fake deaths from 2012 to 2020, in which manipulators used forged medical reports and death certificates, to make millions of pounds of life insurance companies’ money.

The investigation also reveals ways of manipulating these official papers, by exploiting loopholes in the Civil Status Law, to obtain compensation, prompting reinsurance companies to withdraw from the Egyptian market, after incurring financial losses, in the light of weak oversight from the Ministries of Health and Interior and regulatory bodies, and the absence of the latest technological tools in detecting fraud and theft crimes.

The third investigation is “Blue, Beaten and Bruised” by journalist Safaa Ashour, which reveals Egyptian speech-language therapy centers that cause suffering to children with autism in the absence of regulating laws.
