Investigation in Yemen Brings Accountability

Following the publication of our investigation entitled "How Yemen’s War-Wounded Suffered Unnecessary Amputations", the local authorities in Yemen's Taiz governorate, Taiz’s Prosecutor issued an indictment against the director of Al-Birihi hospital in Taiz and a Ukrainian doctor charging them with causing the death of an amputation victim.

Doctors and former patients accused hospitals in Taiz of removing limbs when other options should have been considered.

Following the publication of our investigation, and the interaction of the local authorities in Yemen’s Taiz governorate, Taiz’s Prosecutor issued an indictment against the director of Al-Birihi hospital in Taiz, Issa Naji Ismail El-Brihi, and the Ukrainian doctor Viktor Krasenkov, charging them with causing the death of Rendi Ali Hassan, who was a victim of amputation by a non-specialist doctor, and due to medical negligence, she suffered severe complications and gangrene, and died.
