Pandora Papers Lead The European Commission to Propose a New Directive to Target Shell Companies

On September 1st, 2023, Tunisian President Kais Saied announced the dismissal of the Director-General of the Trans-Tunisian Pipeline Company (TTPC), Moncef Al-Matousi, after publishing ARIJ’s investigation “Algeria-Tunisia gas pipeline tramples on rights of Tunisian farmers” on the Al Jazeera website.

The European Commission proposed a new directive in December to target shell companies, three months after the Pandora Papers investigations were published. The proposal wants to deprive entities that have little to no economic activity of tax benefits. ARIJ collaborated with 600 journalists worldwide and published several investigations based on financial record leaks from offshore companies.
