Journalist Mohamed Al-Sawy’s investigation, “Permission to Kill Children”, won the Arab Journalism Award for the investigative reporting category. This investigation was published with the support of ARIJ.

The “Permission to Kill Children” investigation traces three cases of child murder in a number of Egyptian governorates. What unites the three cases is that the children were issued a burial permit, considering that the death was natural. However, updates later revealed that the children had been killed by family or neighbors, and buried without their bodies being inspected, in violation of the Egyptian Personal Status Law. Based on the documents and facts contained in ARIJ’s investigation, “Masrawy” website published a digital version of the investigation in August 2022.
