The Moroccan authorities announced the removal of the facilities and pumps that destroyed the irrigation system and threatened the environment in the Wadi Shabuka region, following the publication of an investigation by journalist Mohamed Taghrout, with the support of ARIJ.

The waters of Wadi Shabuka in Morocco dried up in May 2022 after some influential farmers installed pumps that pumped water towards their farms, depriving farmers living along the river of irrigating their orchards and watering their livestock before the eyes of local authorities, who did nothing to enforce the law.
