“Mauritania Toxic Mocha Factories” investigation, published on May 3, 2021 and on June 15, 2021 respectively by journalist Abu Bakr Salem had an immediate escalation with the fish flour factory owners filing a lawsuit against the journalist, who later won the appeal with the judge ruling in his favor. Moreover, the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, in response to the investigation, prohibited the overexploitation of fish species and catching fish that is good for human consumption.

This step will reduce the intensity of fishing to produce fishmeal and fish oil. In return, this will influence reducing pollution, ensuring that people’s dietary needs are met, assisting fishing communities and bringing back the prices of fish to normal.
