ARIJ is looking for a podcast production consultant to contribute to the overall objectives of “100 Watts,” an investigative incubator project launched by the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) and supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Jordan.
In its first phase, 100+ participants will attend training workshops and seminars that address investigative journalism topics, such as digital storytelling, the art of podcasting, interviewing skills, and data journalism. Throughout the first phase, participants will develop proposals for podcasts on local Jordanian issues that address accountability, human rights, digital rights, and freedom of religion. Participants will engage in field work, such as conducting interviews and recording audio clips from the field. At least 30 proposals will be selected for full production. The podcasts will then be promoted and broadcast on local radio stations under the title, “100 Watts.”
Scope of Work
Under the supervision of the project manager, the podcast production consultant will be responsible for the following:
Deliverables
The podcast production consultant will be responsible for delivering 15 podcast episodes over the course of four months based on a timetable agreed on with the project management team. Prior to dissemination, the consultant will submit each episode to the project management team for approval.
Duration of the Assignment
Four months from 1 June 2021 to 1 September 2021
Expertise and Qualifications
EDUCATION
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent), in broadcast journalism/communication, international affairs and/or political science is preferred. At a minimum, a first level university degree in combination with additional six years qualifying experience. Fluency in Arabic is required.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Extensive experience of Radio Broadcast Journalism; political awareness and judgment and knowledge of current Jordanian affairs; ability to work under pressure. Strong research and analytical skills. Knowledge of digital editing technology and of multimedia platforms. Ability to write crisply and concisely, making use of sound and words, and to make effective on-air presentations. Ability to produce a complete radio package.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible radio experience, including research, writing, broadcasting and studio work, is required. Written and on-air presentation experience is required. Experience in producing, writing and voicing programs/reports is required. Experience in posting audio and print content to the web is required. Experience with multimedia platforms is desirable. Experience in regional broadcasting is desirable. Recent broadcast experience is desirable.
