ARIJ has recently joined 1,700 organizations from 100 countries in receiving the “Journalism Trust Initiative” certification from Reporters Without Borders (RSF). The goal of the JTI is to provide a transparent mechanism for curbing misinformation and providing recognition for ethical and professional journalism.
Adopted on a voluntary basis as a self-regulatory mechanism, the JTI is based on decisive and objective criteria. These criteria relate to the transparency of the media and the professionalism of the editorial processes, including the application of an editorial line, the existence of correction mechanisms, the management of automatically generated content, internal/external control, transparency on the identity of the owners, the income sources and proof of compliance with professional guarantees.
About the Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI)
Initiated in 2019 by Reporters Without Borders, JTI is a news publishing certification program based on an ISO-type standard. Requirements for news organizations to obtain the JTI certification include compliance with high levels of transparency, the implementation of professional standards and with a responsible management of editorial processes.
