ARIJ organized an online training on “reading financial reports” from 15 to 17 March.

Dr. Mohmed Sameh, the financial consultant for several European corporations and banks, trained 20 journalists from seven Arab countries: Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Palestine and Yemen, on analyzing the financial reports of the companies.

On the first day, Sameh explained the fundamental economic and financial concepts and the elements of the financial reports to detect their loopholes.

The second day witnessed an interaction among the participants who looked at the international loan contracts and detected the deficits in fulfilling the contracts requirement. In the second half of the day, the participants scrutinized the public procurements and the possible violations.

Sameh shined the light on the relationship between the economics and social media that play a propaganda role in the economic field nowadays. Sameh clarified at the end of the training how the offshore companies are abused by the multinational corporations for tax evasion.
