Meta Journalism Project in partnership with ARIJ and the Arab Fact-Checkers Network (AFCN) launched a self-paced interactive course focused on fact-checking in Arabic.

The course features four learning modules; journalism code of ethics, media and information literacy and their correlation with fact-checking, misinformation in the Arab World, the methodology of pre-and post-publication fact-checking, and the verification toolkits for videos, photos and social media accounts.

After participating in the two-hour course – offered for free – trainees will be qualified to issue a certificate of completion co-signed by Meta Journalism Project and ARIJ.

Rawan Damen, Director General of ARIJ
said: “The ‘fact-checker’ is a future media job that is already rising in prevalence, and basic fact-checking skills are fast becoming a prerequisite for all jobs in the industry. Designed entirely in Arabic, this course is key for journalists in our region, especially as it tackles pre and post publication fact-checking for the first time in the Arab world’s own context using Arabic content examples.”

The course is available on ARIJ Academy and AFCN websites for all Arab speakers in the Arab world and beyond. The e-course is produced within the framework of the Edit and Verify project launched last year by Meta Journalism Project in collaboration with ARIJ through AFCN to enhance the fact-checking culture in the Arab World.
