Amman-Jordan

The Mobile Journalism Workshop (Mojo) ended yesterday, after lasting for a whole month, in which Jordanian journalists from various media sectors, including written, digital, radio, or television, trained on filming and editing in-depth reports using mobile phones as part of a series of trainings provided by ARIJ Network (Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism) with the aim of increasing the quality of information dissemination on issues of accountability and governance in Jordan, which opens new horizons for journalists to work on in-depth reports.

The training consisted of four parts, spread over four consecutive weeks, to give journalists an intensive time of viewing reports and working on their phones, encouraging them to produce in-depth reports.

Egyptian trainer Osama El Deeb explained how to act on the shooting site and how to photograph the best shots to serve the video report. He also went over how to choose an image that expresses the text, and the trainees took their first steps towards editing videos through free and professional phone applications, and merge them together, add music and effects, and adjust colors.

The online training was held through the virtual ARIJ Academy platform and lasted for a month, taking place every Sunday and Wednesday, as part of the “Strengthening Media Independence in Jordan” project with the support of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).

This training is a prerequisite to participate in subsequent specialized trainings that will enable journalists to receive editorial, monetary, and legal support to produce in-depth reports, press stories, and in-depth data journalism stories related to accountability and governance. Afterwards, the best trainees will be selected to attend the annual ARIJ Forum in 2021, as they will be given the opportunity to present their reports and achievements in a special session.
